Other heritage ships: The J.R. TOLKIEN, built in 1964, originally served as the harbor tug "Dierkow" in Rostock's overseas port. Today, the 42-meter-long, two-masted, gaff-rigged topsail schooner, with its impressive 838 square meters of sail area, is used as a charter ship for sailing trips and day cruises on the North and Baltic Seas.

Other traditional ships: The LUCIANA was built in 1916 as a Dutch herring trawler and sold to Sweden as a cargo ship just 12 years later. In 1983, the 39-meter-long, two-masted schooner was motorized for charter use. The PLATESSA, built in 1935 in Esbjerg as a shark cutter, now operates charter trips from its home port of Eckernförde. The striking red, two-masted, 25-meter-long gaff ketch is operated by the Eiderdrift community, with an inclusive, experiential educational focus. The SVAENSBORGH was launched in 1907 as a two-masted schooner and has been extended and rebuilt twice over the years. Today, it is a 47-meter-long, three-masted topsail schooner departing from Kiel. It is ideal for school trips for up to 32 people or day trips for up to 80 people. The THOR HEYERDAHL is a topsail schooner based in Kiel, primarily used for youth and educational cruises. The 50-meter-long three-masted vessel was built in the Netherlands in 1930 and offers accommodation for around 10 crew members and up to 34 fellow sailors.

The estate was first mentioned in a document in 1322. The name means something like knob or hump in Low German. The founder of the estate may have been Lupus de Knope (Wulf / Wolf von Knoop), mentioned in 1322, who had acquired the land shortly before. The name Wulf / Wolf can still be found in the coat of arms of the Altenholz community today: a wolf jumping up a tree. The von dem Knope family, which belonged to the Equites Originarii, then emigrated to Denmark, where it bore the name Knob(e), and died out there around 1565. Knoop was owned successively by the von Knoop, von der Wisch and von Rantzau families. The estate was therefore owned by Saxon nobility, although it lay north of the Levensau and thus in the Duchy of Schleswig. In the 16th century, the then owner Paul von Rantzau had the Knoop moated castle (Arx Cnopia) built.
