Beautiful old cutter on the Schlei

Manor house, public park and foundation to which Louisenlund boarding school belongs. You pass the impressive manor house and the parks, among other things, at the LzdM (run between the seas). This relay race from Husum to Damp over 10 sections takes place annually at the end of May / beginning of June. *** Excerpt from: https://www.herrenhaeuser.sh/anwesen/herrenhaeuser/167-louisenlund.html (status 06/2023): In 1770, the Danish King Christian VII (1749-1808) gave his sister Louise the Ziegelhof farm in Schwansen. Her husband, Landgrave Carl von Hessen (1744-1836) commissioned the Kassel master builder Johann Hermann von Motz to build a summer residence on the site. Landgrave Carl von Hessen made a steep career at the Gottorf court when he was young. He was already a major general at the age of 20, married Princess Louise in 1766, quickly rose to become chairman of the Supreme War Council, Minister of State and Viceroy of Norway.

The neoclassical palace was originally built in 1776 as a summer residence for Landgrave Carl of Hesse and his wife Louise, daughter of the Danish King Frederick V. In 1949, Duke Frederick of Schleswig-Holstein founded the boarding school here. Well-known personalities such as coffee king Albert Darboven, Countess Christiane zu Rantzau (Christie's auction house), and shipowner Erck Rickmers attended school here.
