The Heck cattle and the Koniks have not been in the Eider Valley for several years; today Galloways graze there.

Heckrinder - and the Nazis Since the Heck brothers did not have an exact picture of the aurochs, they considered their cattle, which had a similar wild color and longer horns, to be a bred-back aurochs and proclaimed the resurrection of the original cattle. This fit into Nazi propaganda and so Lutz Heck's efforts were criticized by Hermann Göring [ed. the upper ox], the “aurochs” was released back into the wild from 1938 onwards in Białowieża in north-eastern Poland, among other places, in order to create a “Germanic jungle” with “original German” hunting animals.
