The Höllenau and the Olendieksau rivers originate in the Schönbek Moor; the latter flows into the Brahmsee lake. This places the moor on the watershed between the Stör river system and the Wehrau river system, the latter of which now flows into the Kiel Canal and formerly flowed into the Eider river 😉...

A lovely spot to take a short break and enjoy the direct view of the small lake 😉...

The western shore of Lake Einfelder is indeed very beautiful and well worth hiking on.

On the western side of the lake is a beautiful nature reserve. You can enjoy a pleasant walk along the shore on the hiking trail, which also leads into the forest in some sections. It's a great place to hike around the lake or even combine it with a hike to Lake Bordesholm.

This is the rampart of an old castle dating back to around the 9th century. The structure is circular, approximately 100 meters in diameter. A beautiful, quiet spot not far from the water.

This farm shop is located quite far out of town, in a wooded area. I was there one weekend in November. The van was still well-stocked with produce.

The eastern part of the probably circular rampart, facing the lake, is now missing. The remaining rampart is interrupted by a gap of around 30 metres in the west. The entire complex is around 1.5 metres above the level of the surrounding fields, and the rampart is up to four metres high. The remaining parts are covered with a row of oak trees, but are still clearly visible. The town of Neumünster has placed the area under landscape protection. The inner castle consists of an open grassy area. Paths lead along the rampart and through the inner castle.

The Einfelder See was created as a "river lake without inflow or outflow" at the end of the last 🧊 Ice Age around 20,000 years ago. Einfeld has been a district of Neumünster since 1970. However, the lake came into the city's possession much earlier as an exchange object for military installations. Today, the inland lake with its scenic location between hilly country and the Vorgeest is a local recreation area and very popular with 🏄‍♂️ water sports enthusiasts.
