The arcades are a terraced building on the castle square in the Upper Franconian town of Coburg. They close off the castle square on the eastern side and form the transition to the court garden. The arcades are registered as a monument in the Bavarian monument list.

The three-part structure made of sandstone large ashlar masonry in the Italian late Renaissance style functions as a lining or retaining wall at the foot of the fortress hill. At the top it is closed off by a balustrade, the posts of which bear cartouches, as a fall protection. Between two nine-part pillar arcades, designed as blind arcades, a five-axis, protruding portico is arranged in the middle. The central building has three round-arch portals, the pillars of which are decorated with pilasters and which bear wreaths with the ducal initial "E." in the spandrel at the top. A Doric metope frieze with coat of arms cartouches, lions and eagles adorns the portal above a smooth architrave. The anteroom behind it has a cross vault. The rear wall contains three high doorways with triangular gables as access to the interior of the memorial. The portico is flanked on both sides by pylons with framed windows, whose benches and triangular gables rest on consoles. Next to them, wide staircases with cast-iron lanterns lead to the roof terrace and the courtyard garden. Protruding pylons form the side closure of the arcades.

Unfortunately, no photo does the object justice, so there's only one thing that helps: Go there and see for yourself.

The arcades with the portico are an impressive building that exudes a special charm. The historical architecture and elegant design make this place a real eye-catcher.

Sometimes the arcades are also opened at certain times, which allows an even better view. It is worth finding out in advance so as not to miss the opportunity to experience this building up close. 🏛️
