There's a free parking space here on the village road, and you'd think you were entering a private farm. But the signage is clear: Under these two oak trees, commemorating the peace treaty of 1871, is a small, fully shaded parking lot with numerous information boards. Overall, it's a very pleasant place.

Insane asylum - that's the somewhat self-ironical name given to a residential building on the NOK, in whose garden dinosaurs have escaped.

The immediate shore path along the Kiel Canal must be crossed over the road bridge here because of the estuary. A rich flora and fauna has developed on this beach-like biotope: Here you can admire many ducks, rats, and mosquitoes.

The Jevenau is a 10 km long river that originates east of Jevenstedt at the confluence of the Brammer Au and Bokeler Au rivers, where it flows into the Kiel Canal. Before the Kiel Canal was established, the Jevenau flowed into the Eider River. The name "Jevenau" was first documented in 1339 as ad Yevenam. This probably derives from the Old Saxon Gevana, meaning "river rich in bounty" or "river rich in fish." Anglers value the waters for their populations of brown trout, eels, and perch.

The Kiel Canal has a special feature here: it is not oriented west-east like the other sections, but north-south. This gives it the advantage of catching the full west sun in the afternoon.

There's a lighthouse in the garden on Dorfstrasse. I don't know what the watermark's model is.

Wooden ships were built in Schülp between approximately 1759 and 1779. The last, a "Cojüt ship," was built at the Christian Mohr shipyard under the direction of Hans Bock and Hans Frahm. Shipbuilding in Schülp ended with the construction of the Schleswig-Holstein Canal.
