The Augustenhof farm itself is closed to hikers – but the linden avenue leading to it is. This 300-meter-long beauty is a true hiking delight: a gravel path beneath ancient, majestic linden trees. The view of the avenue from the hiking trails in the adjacent fields is particularly beautiful. It leads over a moat by the farm pond. Here, it is paved with cobblestones. An atmospheric spot with a classic estate flair.

The baroque Borghorst estate is idyllically situated among fields, tree-lined avenues, and small lakes near Osdorf. The listed 18th-century manor house is surrounded by a lovingly maintained English landscape park with ancient linden trees, a moat, ponds, and a rose garden. Breakfast in the stylish garden room with a view of the greenery and a stroll through the park are particularly worthwhile. Those who wish can take a guided tour or simply enjoy the peace and quiet on a bench among rhododendrons and water lilies.

On October 25, 1836, the pharmacy candidate Theodor Heinrich Birkenstock received from King Frederik VI. the privilege to set up a pharmacy in Gettorf. In May 1837, Birkenstock opened the privileged Hirsch pharmacy in the Herrenstrasse 8 building. On July 1st, 1842, King Christian VIII confirmed the privilege. In April 1849 this was the headquarters of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the battle of Eckernförde, during which the Danish ship of the line Christian VIII exploded. In place of the royal privilege, the operating license has been in place since 1949. The Hirsch pharmacy has been run by the Kolbe / Purschke family of pharmacists since 1905. Source: Gettorf.de

The listed property has been extensively renovated and is now used as a hotel with an adjacent riding stable. The magnificent baroque mansion was built in 1742. Inside, behind a hall, is the garden room with the almost completely preserved paper wallpaper, which was manufactured in 1825 by the Dufour & Leroy company. The manor house has eight individually furnished rooms, a sauna and two halls. The rooms can be used by the guests for family celebrations, weddings but also business events. The history of Gut Augustenhof can be traced back to around 1430. The estate has been known for decades for its Norman fir, which you can cut yourself before Christmas.
