9月 30, 2025, Fortadorf Damendorf
The term "Fortadorf" describes a settlement type or early modern village layout and is a variation of the village green. Village greens were laid out in a planned manner. The village farms enclosed the circular village square in a loose circle. For protection from danger, the village's livestock was housed overnight in the village green. The distinctive feature of the Fortadorf is that the village square is circular or oval.

The Fresensee can hardly be seen from the official paths, but it is an idyllic and very natural-looking place. Here and there paths lead to the shore. On the head side you can also officially see it lengthwise.

The highlight is the flax kiln; the chimney is still visible. And this is how it worked: This 19th-century flax kiln illustrates the traditional processing of flax – a plant whose seeds were pressed for linseed oil and whose stalks were kilned after retting to release the fibers. The shaft channeled hot air upwards through a stone-lined firebox, where the flax bundles dried (kilned) on an iron grate. This efficient technique characterized rural crafts until it declined in importance with industrialization.

The circumstances of the find, the circumstances of the deposition of the man from Osterby and the objects found show numerous parallels to other bog corpse finds. Like other Iron Age finds, the man from Osterby was beheaded and laid on the moor. The fractures on the skull caused by being hit with a blunt object indicate intentional multiple killing. Whether a death sentence was carried out on the man due to Germanic legal mores or whether he was sacrificed can no longer be clarified with certainty today.
