The Peterskirche is an originally three-aisled Romanesque pillar basilica and was the abbey church of a Benedictine abbey. It is located on the Petersberg in the center of the Thuringian capital Erfurt.

At the beginning of the 12th century, the Peterskirche was built in the sense of the Hirsauer reform as a monastery church of the former Benedictine monastery of St. Peter and Paul (Peterskloster). This monastery had several times the honor to accommodate German emperors and kings due to close relations with the neighboring Palatinate on the Petersberg. During the Thirty Years' War, the Catholic Church of St. Peter was temporarily used as a Protestant church. At the beginning of the 19th century, the church still had two conspicuous east towers, then the French and then the Prussians converted the church into a magazine and storage building. With this use it remained up to the present. For the Federal Garden Show 2021 a revitalization is planned as a church (Wikipedia).

The Peterskirche, located on the southeastern part of the former Peterskloster, is a three-aisled Romanesque pillar basilica. The former church of the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter and Paul is one of the earliest and most important Romanesque church buildings in Thuringia. In the past there was probably an artist's museum, a magazine with a warehouse and other purposes, until the Federal Garden Show 2021 a revitalization as a church is planned, the construction progress can be seen well.
