After the foundation stone was laid for the new St. Thomas Church on April 29, 1900, under the direction of the pastor Alfred Fritzsche and the Hanoverian architect Rudolph Eberhard Hillebrand, a new Gothic building was started in a park on Schillerstrasse. After two years of construction, the new St. Thomas Church with space for around 1,100 visitors was inaugurated on June 15, 1902 in a festive service (Wikipedia).
