According to the Protection Area Ordinance, the protective purpose of the nature reserve is:
+ the preservation of the geologically and historically significant Battert rock group and its surroundings;
+ the preservation of valuable plant sites and animal habitats, especially rare insects and reptiles;
+ the preservation of the near-natural parts of the forest growing on the block heaps with their impressive stocks of trees;
+ the preservation of the Battert as a natural recreation area.
