Absolutely ignorant, I suspected a connection with the spa clinic not far away, e.g. a turning point on a kind of training course or something similar. But far from it! This place was named after the film "Bis zur Umkehrbank" about the life of Hans Keilson, born in Freienwalde in 1909. The son of a Jewish textile merchant emigrated to Holland in 1936 and survived the war. The book author and psychoanalyst visited his hometown for numerous readings. In 2011 he died in Holland. The library in Bad Freienwalde is named after him. There is a simple memorial stone next to the turning bench known from the film. Hans Keilson always wandered to this bank with his father and then turned around to get to lunch on time. Hans Keilson's parents were murdered on the same day in 1943 in the Birkenau concentration camp.

No, you shouldn't turn back here, but you can certainly pause for a moment. The young Hans Keilson hiked this far with his father before both turned back to be home in time for lunch.Hans Alex Keilson, honorary citizen of Bad Freienwalde, lived here until he fled to the Netherlands in 1936, where he was persecuted by the Nazis as a Jew, writer, and doctor.
