Not only does it look great, it also does a great job for such an
    very old building.
As a child you could still climb around on parts just above the waterline, which was of course life-threatening...🤪🫣
    Then it was renovated.
    The city writes:
Even if you tend to ignore the Alttornow pumping station near the Bad Freienwalde train station, the building has a lot to offer: Built in 1895, it drains 1330 hectares of agricultural land between Altkietz and Bad Freienwalde into the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler waterway. It also keeps the Bad Freienwalde suburban settlement and the allotments on the Landgraben dry when the water from the Oder backs up.

The Alttornow pumping station near the Bad Freienwalde train station was built in 1895 (modernized in 2006, capacity of 10,800 m³/h) and drains 1330 hectares of agricultural land between Altkietz and Bad Freienwalde into the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthal waterway. It also keeps the outskirts of Bad Freienwalde and the allotments on the Landgraben dry when the water from the Oder backs up.
An investigation towards the end of the 19th century "to prevent water damage and to improve the drainage conditions for the Oderbruch" came to the conclusion that "the variant with smaller pumping stations represents the most reliable improvement for the Oderbruch and without significant damage to other legitimate interests is executable". In addition to the Hohensaaten special polder, which was set up in 1876, four other special polders with corresponding pumping stations were created between 1893 and 1895, one of which was the Alttornow pumping station.
