Tips

  • "... Above the former Aprath Castle, on a hill surrounded by fields and meadows, stands the Kaiser Wilhelm monument. It is surrounded by a ring of deciduous trees.
The former owner of Aprath Castle, member of the state parliament, Karl Rumpff, donated the monument in the second half of the 19th century to commemorate the emperor's visit to Aprath in 1877. On July 5, 1890, it was inaugurated. In addition to Kaiser Wilhelm I, the memorial should also be dedicated to the war clubs.
The monument is erected as a hexagonal neo-Gothic tabernacle with an openwork pinnacle as a work piece in ashlar. The accompanying bust of Kaiser Wilhelm I is damaged and is in the care of the Niederbergisches Museum in Wülfrath. ... "

  • Actually one of the charming rest areas with a view over the fields (farmer driving out liquid manure), but today both benches are full of rubbish.
However, the old Kaiser doesn't look so fresh anymore either, the environmental influences are eating him up and have begun to neutralize his sandstone face.
January 2022: "It becomes absolutely unambiguous when I approach the Kaiser Wilhelm monument in Aprath, this is not the first time I am taking a break.
The monument itself looks as imposing as it is lost. The single tower seems to have fallen from the little church, the meaning of the monument has fallen out of time. Despite that, it's a place full of charisma; When hiking, there is hardly a way around it without stopping there."
