The Schlupkothen nature reserve is located in the north of the Schlupkothen district of Wülfrath, in the Mettmann district. It is located in the area of the Schlupkothen quarry near the Bochumer Bruch.

From 1898 to 1960, more than 45 million tons of limestone were mined in the quarry. The 33.37 hectare, water-filled quarry, which has been enclosed by a circular hiking trail with viewing platforms since 2003, has been a nature reserve since 1984 because of its special importance as a reptile and amphibian habitat. The protection ends automatically when the limestone quarry is cultivated again.
