On the Square Colbert in Reims stands a statue of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the famous finance minister under Louis XIV. The statue was made of bronze by the French sculptor Eugène Guillaume (1822–1905) and stands on a pedestal designed by the architect Théodore Ballu. It was unveiled in 1860

In 1945, there was a proposal to replace Colbert's statue with a monument dedicated to the Martyrs of the Resistance, but this suggestion was ultimately rejected.
