With the influx of workers in the 19th century, the old official cemetery in Kirchdorf became too small. So in 1890 a new cemetery was set up for the residents who lived west of the railway line. The neo-Gothic chapel was inaugurated in 1902 and the extension was added later. After the cemetery was closed in the late 1950s, the chapel stood forgotten and closed as if in a sleeping beauty. It was therefore a nice experience when I actually had the opportunity to view the interior in the Wilhelminian style in the 1990s, which unfortunately later fell victim to the renovation. The wooden canopy was also torn down. Only the benches are still somewhat intact and are now in front of the chapel.

Last but not least, nice to know: Lorenz Harms was the first landlord of the "Wilhelmsburger Hof", the inn, which is located in the striking green building on the corner of Georg-Wilhelm-Strasse and Kornweide.
