This remarkable fountain was built in 1634. The fountain was complemented in 1667 by a monumental bronze statue of Saint John the Baptist by the sculptor Jean Del Cour. The artist also created the bas-relief of the northwest niche depicting the baptism of Christ.

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste fountain is located on Rue Hors-Château, not far from the Montagne de Bueren. This one is the third fountain at this point. The first fountain dates back to the 14th century and was fed by the Areine Richefontaine. The current fountain was built in 1634 in place of the second fountain that was demolished. Until 1667 the fountain only had a type of rock on its top. At that time the bronze group of Saint John the Baptist and the bronze reliefs were placed on it, the first works by Jean Del Cour after his return from the Eternal City of Rome.
