The square formed by the two buildings had already been expanded by Thomas, the city planning officer. To do this, he had the Saale slope filled in and provided with a retaining wall. The wall bears an inscription made of limestone from the Sand quarry in honor of the Leipzig merchant Friedrich Brandstetter, who donated 1,000 thalers for the park in 1872 in memory of his home town of Hof and his mother who died here.
