In honor of Hof's city architect Gottlob Thomas, who had left his mark on the Theresienstein Public Park in the 19th century, this artificially created hill was crowned with a tower. It was a "Chinese Tower," in keeping with the fashion of the time and inspired by the English Garden in Munich and many landscape gardens of the time. Having become dilapidated, the original tower was demolished in 1952. It was rebuilt for the 1994 State Garden Show based on old plans and photographs.
