The finds describing "the oldest Duisburg" date back to the first century AD. In a silted-up former Rhine riverbed, pieces of clay, glass, metal, wood, and leather were found, as well as bones and plant remains.
At the highlight, you can see in several layers what the market square looked like from the 13th century to the 20th century. A steel sculpture above the excavations shows the outlines of two market houses that stood here until 1944.
