10/10/2013 | Culture"... Today the so-called" art submarine "was launched, assembled and anchored in front of the MKM in Duisburg Inner Harbor. The new acquisition of the Ströher Collection is 16.6 meters long, 7.3 meters wide and Tower 6 , 3 meters high, made of 6 mm thick steel and was built at the Meiderich shipyard in Duisburg.
For the artists, the submarine represents a symbol of figuratively coded knowledge that is sometimes visible, but can also become invisible when diving. The levels of interpretation are diverse. The submarine stands for destruction, for protection, for appropriation in equal measure. It stands for warlike, political and media camouflage and deception. In our case it is a walk-in work of art with the title “I CAN, BECAUSE I WILL, WHAT I MUST”, which is a joint project of the artist Andreas M. Kaufmann and the image scientist and art historian Prof. Dr. Hans Ulrich Reck was seen for the first time in the Baldeneysee three years ago on the occasion of the RUHR.2010 Capital of Culture year.
For the transport to the new "old" homeland, the submarine had to be dismantled into 3 body parts and 2 wings. The assembly took place on the water and took several hours. ... "
