The wind energy tower on Sinterplatz helps improve the water quality of the clear water canal. The heart of the tower is a wind turbine that performs well even at low wind speeds. The frequent flyer drives a water screw in the lower part of the tower, which lifts an average of 15 to 27 liters of water per minute from the clear water channel into a container on the tower. From here the water flows via pipes along the high promenade to the bunker gardens. In this way, the plants in the bunker gardens can be watered in dry periods. If this is not necessary, the water flows through a collecting basin to a gargoyle, where it falls from a great height back into the clear water channel and enriches it with oxygen. From wind force 5, the wind turbine turns independently out of the wind for safety reasons.

The sinter site in Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park was formerly part of the ore processing plant. Today, it is an open-air event space with a wind turbine tower and a water spiral—a symbol of sustainable technology in an industrial setting.
