This fountain from 1874 (revised in 2002) is dedicated to the (at the time) world-famous forestry scientist Johann Christian Karl Gayer (born 1822 in Speyer; died March 1, 1907 in Munich).

He "had a rapid career as a forestry scientist and his main places of work were in Aschaffenburg and Munich, where he rose to become rector of the university. He was the first forester to hold this top position, once achieved world fame with his forestry science findings and continues to have an impact today, especially since he provides answers to many current forest questions. This father of scientifically based forestry demanded that site conditions and the advantages of mixed forests be taken into account even then and introduced the concept of sustainability as an ecological dimension into forestry science."
He worked as district manager in Weisenheim (Berg) from 1851 to 1855.
There is a memorial to him in the Salinenhof of the University of Munich. "In addition, streets in Munich and Weisenheim am Berg now bear his name. [...] In addition, the Faculty of Forestry and the BUND regularly award 'Karl Gayer Medals' for services to natural forestry in the spirit of Gayer."

Nice place to rest, unfortunately the newly tapped spring has a defect: the water does not come out of/into the new tap, but comes out of the little wall right next to it.
