The Haus zum Schwarzen Horn is one of the most beautiful historical buildings in Stein am Rhein. Located directly on the Rathausplatz, it is a true gem of the old town.
Stately corner building from the 15th century. In 1515, two protruding half-timbered floors were added to the three-story stone building. The delicate stone oriel is striking. The house is the birthplace of Johann Rudolf Schmid, Freiherr von Schwarzenhorn, who worked as imperial resident at the Turkish Sultan from 1629–1643. In 1914, the facade was painted with the depiction of his entry into Stein am Rhein in 1664.
