Today, the Charlottenburg power plant occupies a large area on the banks of the Spree. It has been growing steadily for over 120 years. The client for the construction in 1900 was the wealthy city of Charlottenburg, which competed with neighboring Berlin. The new power plant is intended to secure the power supply for the electric tram. In addition, the former metropolis of Charlottenburg hopes to attract industrial companies and wealthy Berliners. The then 28-year-old engineer Georg Klingenberg took on the design and construction of the first coal-fired power plant. In the years that followed, Klingenberg developed into a veritable power plant expert. More than 70 of these buildings are being built according to his plans, around a third of them abroad. The Siemenssteg opened at the same time as the power plant: a bridge that leads the electrical lines over the Spree to Charlottenburg and serves as a pedestrian bridge for the workers.

The Charlottenburg thermal power station (also known as the Charlottenburg power station) is a thermal power station in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of Berlin. It is located on the so-called Kalowswerder between Am Spreebord and Quedlinburger Straße. The Swedish energy group Vattenfall, whose subsidiary Vattenfall Europe Wärme, which belongs to the German subgroup, is responsible for its operation, has been the owner of the system, which operates on the principle of combined heat and power.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraftwerk_Charlottenburg
