Franz Liszt lived in the former court gardener's house on the edge of the park on the Ilm from 1869 until his death in 1886. Here he taught numerous young and talented pianists from Germany and abroad. As early as 1887, Grand Duke Carl Alexander had the composer's living quarters opened as a memorial site. The music salon and study have been preserved in their original form, including the Bechstein grand piano.

Liszt House, Marienstrasse 17, Weimar
History of the house
The classicist building is located on the western edge of the park on the Ilm and at the beginning of the avenue to Belvedere Palace. It was built shortly before the turn of the 19th century as a court gardener's house. In 1819, the master builder Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray redesigned the house and adapted its architecture to the building opposite. Before Franz Liszt moved in in 1869, the house served as a studio for Friedrich Preller the Elder and Hermann Wislicenius from the 1850s.
Liszt's summer residence by the park
This was the beginning of Liszt's second stay in Weimar. From 1848 to 1861 he had already lived in the Villa Altenburg on Jenaer Strasse as court conductor together with Princess Carolyne von Sayn-Wittgenstein. Franz Liszt lived in the former court gardens at the entrance to the park between 1869 and 1886 during the summer months and received his international group of students for piano lessons.
Tour
There is a permanent exhibition on the ground floor and the living room and study as well as the bedroom, dining room and servants' room on the upper floor. Liszt lived on the upper floor
