A testament to the early Renaissance: The Cranach house on the market square in Weimar. In the 16th century the painter Lucas Cranach the Elder lived here with his son Lucas Cranach the Younger until his death in October 1553. Lucas Cranach the Elder set up a workshop in the house and took on two more students in the year before his death. In his "painting room" he worked on the famous three-winged altarpiece for the town church of St. Peter and Paul - the work that his son completed. Today there is a cabaret stage in the house with the "Theater in the Vault". Source: weimar.de

      + + + there are no more exhibitions + + +

There used to be the cooperative of fine artists there and brought exhibitions of famous artists into the house such as Hundertwasser, Christo and others.

Today the house is home to the theater in the vault, which mainly performs smaller pieces by Goethe, Schiller and other classics, staged very deliciously and imaginatively. Otherwise it is no longer accessible to the public.

The Cranachhaus is the left of two almost identical Renaissance houses on the east side of the market square in Weimar, directly opposite the town hall. Here lived in the 16th century, the painter Lucas Cranach the Elder and his son Lucas Cranach the Younger (Wikipedia).
