The Black Lake on the edge of the world natural heritage was the former meltwater runoff in the direction of the ice-free southern areas. The narrow, channel-shaped bulges of the lake leading to the west mark the remains of former meltwater drainage channels. The main receiving water broke south of the Black Lake through the Joachimsthaler terminal moraine arch. The meltwater flowed through the narrow glacier gate and poured into the flat foreland. As a result, they lost energy, flowed more slowly and sediments were deposited and formed the Althüttendorfer Kegelsander.

Sabine's information probably refers to the Great Black Lake to the southwest of here. It is much closer to the terminal moraine and the Althüttendorf gravel pit. (It is a bit confusing when three lakes in Grumsin are called Black Lake.)

This particular Black Lake here, at the northern end of the forest, is supposedly the highest lake in Brandenburg.
