The 78 meter high building, which is under monument protection, is considered a landmark and distinctive symbol of Schöneberg on the EUREF campus in the Rote Insel district.

The Schöneberg Gasometer is now more than a hundred years old and it is impossible to imagine the city landscape without it. There was some public protest at the time of construction, but it was finally put into operation in 1913. It was not closed until 1995 and placed under monument protection. While various events are taking place in the lower area, daring explorers can climb to dizzy heights on the gasometer's steel frame. As part of a guided tour - provided you have sturdy shoes and good weather - you can enjoy a unique view of Berlin from the top edge of the Gasometer while the wind whistles in your face.
