Built in the 16th century by the Archbishop of Mainz, Albrecht von Brandenburg, as a customs post

The former Main Customs House in Mainz, located on the main street, is Stockstadt's best-known attraction. The development of Stockstadt was influenced by the factors traffic and settlement - in Roman times by the fort, in the Middle Ages by the border location between the county of Hanau and the archbishopric of Mainz. The old customs house on the main street in the old part of town is worth seeing: It was built between 1514 and 1545 under the Archbishop of Mainz and Elector Albrecht von Brandenburg and served as a customs station for a long time. The complex consists of a residential building with a half-timbered upper floor and a small porch that served as a customs collection point. Interesting for cyclists: The German Limes cycle path runs through Stockstadt, following the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes from Bad Hönningen on the Rhine to Regensburg on the Danube.

The “customs station” was built directly on the Gersprenz Bridge.
