In view of the 36 ° C outside temperature, we planned the tour today almost exclusively in the forest. We started at the sports field in Hackenheim, then went along the quarry through the forest. After some time we came across the already well-known Vital Tour Rheingrafenstein at the memorial stone Liberation Rhineland "and followed it for a while. We continued over Wieneke's forest idyll, past many" inhabited "hornet nests at a respectful distance, which were set up there by NABU. Then a look into the Huttental and then a rest in the Waldheim. Past the old hermitage and a detour through the gravel pit, we went back to the car.
All in all, very exhausting at these temperatures and the 240 meters in altitude felt like 500 ;-)

Today we went on a shortened Kühkopf round.
As usual, I start in Berliner Strasse in Erfelden and follow it to the Altrheinufer, then right and then over the bridge. Then follow the first right and later right again the yellow 3. At km 4 turn left onto yellow 2 and then immediately right again. Then the old Kolk will soon be on the left-hand side at the dam break. At the refuge then straight ahead and later the concrete path - which is tarred at this point; -) - cross. At the next refuge, turn left to the treasure island Kühkopf and then to the Stockstadt Altrhein bridge. Before, very sharp left and soon right again along the next beautiful forest path along the Althein. On the concrete path then right again and past the playground to the bridge and on as I came in.
Also a very nice Kühkopf round for runners and hikers.

Today on the second day of our Moselle weekend we went on the next dream path.
We got on at the Ringelsteiner mill and a good 2 km up the beautiful Eltzbach valley to the Eltz castle. The castle offers a wonderful view from all sides and is the absolute highlight of the tour. Then it goes a bit along the Eltzbach before it goes up to the Moselle plateau. In Wierschem we visited the beautiful little Antonius chapel and paused at a very nice little rest area behind the village. Later it goes back down into the Eltzbach valley. Shortly before the bridge to the Ringelsteiner mill, we watched a small, sweet herd of alpacas playing and fighting.

On the first day of our short Moselle vacation, we set out on the dream trail of the Ehrfenburg gorge trail.
The almost 19 km and above all the 700 vertical meters according to Komoot, or 879 according to outdooractive in three steep climbs were quite a challenge. But the effort was absolutely worth it! Started in Brodenbach after a few 100 meters through the beautiful town in winding steep paths up the Brodenbach valley. Above compensate for beautiful views of the Moselle valley to the Teufelslay refuge. Then it goes around the Schafberg to Nörteshausen. We recommend a detour from the - very well signposted - route to the very beautiful little Antonius chapel, which is usually also open. Then it goes down in beautiful paths in the Brodenbach valley to follow the valley uphill past the Donnersloch before we had to tackle the second steep climb towards Ehrenburg. We didn't visit the castle itself because of many visitors. But a look behind the bridge into the interior suggests that a visit could also be worthwhile. After circumnavigating the castle, it went down the Ehrenbach valley, in order to then "suffer" a steep climb on the other side. But it is also worth it, as there are beautiful views of the Moselle valley above. The last at the cenotaph before going back down to Brodenbach.

Today I show you a shortened version of my favorite round on the Kühkopf.
Let's go in Bahnstr. Erfelden, at the entrance to the pharmacy. I follow Berliner Str. To the Altrhein and then walk right along the bank to the bridge. Enjoy the beautiful view of the Old Rhine over the bridge and then follow the next right and always follow the yellow 3.
A very nice route through forest with overgrown ponds on the left. At km 6 I stay on 3 and turn left. After a few km I cross the so-called "concrete path" and stay on the 3rd. A very beautiful piece of forest follows and at the next crossroads I turn left, leave the 3 and walk along the cow pasture. It used to be a really overgrown trail and brain tip, but now it's well developed. At km 8 I cross a path at a refuge and am again on the 3rd. Later I pass the Guntershausen estate and walk right to almost the Altrhein Bridge in Stockstadt. There very sharp left and after a few meters right again through the next beautiful forest. After a few km I reach the main path again and turn right there. Passing the children's playground, we return to the Erfeld bridge.
Also a wonderful round, especially when the sun is already high because it is almost completely through the forest.

Today we went from Jugenheim along the Saubach towards Stadecken. Unfortunately we didn't have a rain jacket with us and underestimated the 10% chance of rain 😱 because on the way up to the pavilion the rain almost caught up with us. There waited for a while with other hikers the heavy shower and then we went on to the Stadecker Warte. Past the Roman sarcophagus it went down into the valley and along the stream towards Partenheim and then over the hill to Jugenheim.

A very nice route through forest with overgrown ponds on the left. At km 6 I leave the 3, which turns left and continue straight on the 6. After a few km I reach the "New" Rhine on the Guntersblum ferry terminal. There you go left along the Rhine. Yes and then at the next refuge, the spirits or the good runners separate from me ;-)
Those who are fit keep running straight on the half marathon round while I turn left across the meadow into the forest.
A very beautiful piece of forest follows and at the next crossroads I stay right and walk along the cow pasture. A long and exhausting tour, but without many highlights. Well, we missed two of them (Lümmelfelsen and Hattstein castle ruins) because they are a bit off the beaten path. And we were probably too focused on the fox, the mark for the way. You can view the original tour here: taunus.info/angebote/sport-und-outdoor/wandern/wanderwege/seelenrunde/r-75. But for that we have built the ruins of Reifenfels and it is really worth seeing. Great view and the narrow climb into the residential tower is really an experience.
