Paper mill and "shacks"
Between 1830 and 1880 a paper mill was in operation on the Gersprenz in Hessian district directly on the border to Bavaria on previously undeveloped land. Among other things, a "cardboard fabrication" company worked under several owners, but this was not permanently economical - especially since an application for expansion of the company was rejected by the responsible municipality of Harreshausen. After the property was auctioned off in 1890, most of the buildings were demolished.
After the Second World War, beverage houses were built on both sides of the state border, on the Hessian district the "Waldmühlschenke" in timber construction with Babenhäuser Michelsbräu and on the Bavarian side the last bricked "papiermühl-tavern" with Bavarian Eder beer from Großostheim. Both cottages were a popular destination for excursions, but as they could no longer be operated economically over time, they closed
again after a while.

The ruins of the paper mill lie on the Gersprenz, on the cultural hiking trail, between Harreshausen and Stockstadt and is a beautiful destination.
