The Fürth Town Hall is the landmark of the Middle Franconian city. It is located in the center of Fürth on Königstrasse and is the tallest building in the city centre.

It was built between 1840 and 1844 according to plans by Georg Friedrich Christian Bürklein, which Eduard Bürklein says he "co-edited".[1] From 1845 to 1850 another component followed with the tower, which is copied from the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. In 1900/01, an extension was built on Königstraße (architect: Friedrich von Thiersch), which now houses the conference room.

Structural changes were made in 1995, when houses for the construction of the subway were demolished at the back and an excavation pit opened up over the years. Since its completion at the end of 1998, the Rathaus subway station has been located directly under the building. Where the four-lane federal highway 8 used to run in front of the building, there is now a bus station.

During the Fürth Michaelis church fair and on special occasions, the tower is illuminated with lamps. Originally, the lighting was only supposed to remain on the tower for a short time, but the people of Fürth liked it so much that, even with the current tight budget situation, the lighting should not be left out. On special occasions, e.g. B. the open day, there is the opportunity to visit the tower. Since November 1, 2007, a glockenspiel (Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, bars 8 to 16, melody transposed to C minor, daily at 12:04 p.m.[2]) has been heard from the tower, after the last one was shut down in 1966 due to a defect became.[3][4]

The SpVgg Greuther Fürth footballers received a special welcome in 1997 after promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga and in 2012 to the 1st Bundesliga when thousands gathered in front of the town hall balcony to cheer for the players.

Since 2010, the Fürth Crime Museum has been located in the basement with an exhibition area of 200 m².

The Fürth Town Hall is a not really typical Franconian town hall. The Palazzo Vecchio in Florence was the model for this classicist-style building.

The subway stop and public transport are ideal starting points for various tours.
