At the end of the 18th century, most of the forests on the Kloosterberg had already been cleared. Arable land had taken its place, creating an open landscape with a wide panorama. The hill is intersected by sunken roads.

The Kloosterberg is a witness hill from the Diestian. The Begijnenbeek is possibly part of a former fossil valley that could be extended to the west along the Winge valley. Some authors see this as a former Demer bed.
