The "Mittelbruch" nature reserve is located a little off the main hiking trails that lead through the Bucher Forest and along the Panke. Extensive meadows and three small bodies of water that have emerged from peat cuttings (Nordstich, Großer and Kleiner Torfstich) characterize the nature reserve. This landscape is a relic of a cultural landscape that hardly exists anymore. Worthy of note are the smooth oat meadows that can still be found in large stands in fresh to seasonally moist areas and are now under EU-wide protection.
