I found an interesting article online by Christian Rößler from Freiburg. Many thanks to Christian Rößler for his effort and the pictures.
His statement: The Rauhberg Tunnel is a rather pointless structure, presumably an anti-aircraft emplacement belonging to the West Wall, with ammunition storage inside. It is located at a fairly high altitude between Hauenstein and Spirkelbach in the Palatinate.

The Rauhberg Tunnel is a very interesting location for me.
Anyone who wants to walk through the approximately 100-meter-long tunnel should start on the Spirkelbach side (Komoot highlight point), as there is a small rock step to climb at the exit on the Hauenstein side, and this can be slippery on the descent due to the sand.
Fortunately, I always have my powerful headlamp with me, so I was able to walk through the entire tunnel. A piece of the ceiling collapsed in the middle of the tunnel.
Somehow, you get lost when you come out at the other end of the tunnel. Thanks to Komoot (but also without it), no problem 😂
If, as Angelika writes, bats really hibernate, then signs should be put up, similar to the falcon breeding area. I personally think it would be a shame to close the entire facility year-round.

    Addendum 09.2021:
    1) The rear exit is locked, so you can avoid the climb over the sandy rock barrier!!!!

    2) There is a sign on the entrance door:
"Hibernation. Please do not enter from November to March. Thank you" and
"Dear Komoot community, this is not a hiking highlight."

For me, it is a historical highlight, which is interesting and there is nothing wrong with entering the tunnel in summer.

!!!! BUT YOU SHOULD NEVER ENTER THE TUNNEL IN WINTER AND ALLOW THE BATS TO hibernate and POSTPONE YOUR VISIT UNTIL SUMMER!!!!

Bats hibernate here in winter. Please do not disturb

Very important: the tunnel is an important bat roost where the animals hibernate. Please do not enter the tunnel during this time!
