The Wolf's Gorge apparently owes its name to a legend. The story is described on a plaque there.

"...On the Wolfschlucht Trail, at the Wolfschlucht site, we turn onto a mule track at 360 meters above sea level, descending into the steep, wildly romantic gorge, surrounded by high cliffs covered in moss and ferns in the middle of an ancient beech forest.
An information sign from the Baden-Baden Municipal Forestry Office tells us the legend of the Wolfschlucht:

🐺 A violinist 🎻 from the Murg Valley had played for half the night at a wedding over in Neuweier, earning several pennies in return. But violins make you thirsty, and so he had also emptied several cups of the good Neuweier wine. It was already long after midnight when he staggered home. Shortly after the Teufelskanzel (Devil's Pulpit), he veered slightly off the road. Suddenly, he lost his footing and plunged headfirst into the depths, but landed on something soft that immediately leaped out from under him. The little fiddler sobers up. He gropes around and realizes he's lying in a pit. Opposite him, however, two greenish lights sparkle, and a threatening growl tells him that a wolf is his companion. In his fear, the fiddler takes his violin and plays all the tunes he played that night in Neuweier. And behold, the wolf sits down in front of him like a dog and listens to him, howling as if for pleasure against the dim morning sky. But whenever the fiddler stops to catch his breath, the predator bares its teeth threateningly at him. So he plays and plays and feels his strength leaving him.

Fortunately, toward morning, the lordly head huntsman and innkeeper arrives and recognizes the fiddler, with whom he has already shared many a glass of wine in Selbach. He quickly aims his crossbow and drives the iron bolt between the wolf's lights. The fiddler, however, hurried home. He is to be honored by his wife. He promised not to drink more than he needed; but she didn't believe him. 🐺..."
