The Poppelsdorfer Schloss is a baroque palace in the Bonn district of Poppelsdorf.
The Poppelsdorfer Schloss is the successor to a Gothic moated castle destroyed in the Truchsessian War in 1583 and was planned and built from 1715 (laying of the foundation stone on August 21) to 1740. The architect was the Frenchman Robert de Cotte. The builders were the Cologne Elector Joseph Clemens and his nephew and successor Clemens August, who had it expanded according to plans by Balthasar Neumann. It was also called Pleasure Palace Clemensruhe after its builders.
