It consists of the remains of the old Bonn city wall and gives the viewer an idea of how powerful the city fortifications must have been in the Middle Ages. The original 13th-century star gate stood a few yards from its current location. In 1898 it was demolished to accommodate the increasing traffic in the city. Today's star gate has "moved" to its new location and consists partly of remains of the original.
