Mercurius (German Merkur) is a god in the Roman religion. Its name derives from the Latin word merx, "goods". He was equated with the Greek Hermes. His origin and other characteristics were transferred to him. He was considered a "messenger of the gods" and is the god of traders and thieves.

In ancient mythology, he was, among other things, the god of trade—but also of thieves.
