The family Sillem bought the property in 1825 from the van der Smissen family and had the park landscaped in English style.
In 1864, the property became the property of Carl Wesselhoeft, who enriched the park with exotic plants.
In 1953, the family sold larger parts of the park to the city of Hamburg, which has since been open to the public.
The park is characterized by numerous old trees, two former mill ponds and the meandering river.

The Wesselhöftpark is located in the immediate vicinity of the Elbe and the Jenischpark. The park once belonged to the merchant Wesselhöft. Since 1953 he is available to the public. The natural green area receives its special character, above all through the old trees and the two former mill ponds.
