Blankenese, a former fishing village, is now one of the wealthiest districts in Hamburg. Past restaurants and hotels that line the promenade of the Elbe beach, you can stroll along the Elbe beach or explore the around 5,000 steps of the Blankeneser stairway district. The stairs district leads from the Elbe beach up to the Süllberg, one of the highest elevations in Hamburg. Those who continue along the beach can explore the Unterfeuer Blankenese lighthouse. It is located in the middle of the Elbe and can be reached via a footbridge.
A little further downstream, on the Falkensteiner Ufer between Blankenese and Rissen, dogs can also spend a relaxing day by the water and let off steam without a leash. With the expansion of the Elbpark on Falkensteiner Ufer, it has also become possible to walk longer on the beach in the direction of Rissen. The Elbe beach can be reached from the Blankenese S-Bahn station with bus 48: The buses on the line are also called Bergziege because they skilfully meander through the steep and narrow streets in Blankenese.

Sometimes you think you're walking along the banks of the Elbe by the North Sea. On rainy days it can happen that the Elbe whips itself up like the ocean. But of course there are also many warm and sunny days. The river is already 500 meters wide here and is also reminiscent of the sea, because the ebb and flow of the tide make for a decent tide. The beach at Wittenbergen in Blankenese is popular with walkers from all over Hamburg. From the Staircase District in Blankeners, you go down to the beach and from there as far as your rubber boots can carry you.

The famous staircase district is also located in Blankenese. This got its name because of the many winding streets and the steps leading down to the banks of the Elbe. Directly on the Elbe slope between the streets "Am Kiekeberg" and "Strandweg" the more than 5,000 steps lead down to the beach. Nested alleys and many nice pubs make the district so special. They fit perfectly into the beach atmosphere and reflect the maritime character of Hamburg. A walk through the stairs district, e.g. up to the Süllberg, should not be missing when staying in the city district. On the Süllberg, vacationers will find excellent, star-rated restaurants. Here gourmets can do something good for their palate.
