Part of the Diestiaanheuvel, which is the Warande, was used as a quarry. Iron sandstone was used for the second castle that was built on the hill, traces of which are still visible.

That old iron sandstone quarry was redeveloped as an open-air theatre. It was made in 1939 based on a design by the Dutchman Marinus Naalden and offered space for 1000 visitors as an amphitheatre. It is still in use today.
