The Schleepark is the former Holy Spirit Cemetery

Dr. Ernst Schlee (1834-1905) was the founder of the oldest German reform school in Altona and is the namesake of the Schleepark, the former cemetery of the main parish of St. Trinitatis in Altona, which was used for burials from 1741 to 1878. The Holy Spirit Church was completely destroyed in 1943.

In the 1970s, the cemetery was desecrated and converted into a public green space. Some gravestones of well-known Altona families have been preserved and some are on display as museums. The design of the green space is characterized by curved paths and lawns. The green lawns are shaded by old trees.
