Anna of Saxony is still the most famous Saxon electress of the early modern period. She was considered an exemplary woman in the sense of a bourgeois ideal, an impeccable mother of the country who supported the sick and weak, successfully managed the property and looked after her husband in an exemplary manner. Anna of Saxony was born in 1532 as the eldest daughter of King Christian III of Denmark. At the age of 16, in 1548, she married August of Saxony, known as "Father August". Only four of her 15 children survived. Her mother awakened her interest in the production and collection of medicinal herbs at an early age. Electress Anna later founded the Dresden court pharmacy. She was committed to medical care, invented remedies and promoted the training of midwives. She even personally supported asylum seekers and the sick.
