Children used to work in the Freiberg mines as so-called Klaubejungen. They sorted the raw ore and prepared it for further processing. The boys - many of them only six or seven years old - worked hard. Dust and noise were bad for their health. The city of Freiberg took the unveiling of the Klaubejungen figure as an opportunity to draw attention to the issue of children's rights and their strengthening.
