Friederike Caroline Neuber, alias “Die Neuberin”, is dancing in front of the theater. She was an actress, theater director and author. At the age of 30, she led her own theater troupe and performed in Freiberg as well as in numerous other German cities. She strove to give expression and content to the often simple plays on traveling stages. Her aim: theater should not only entertain, but also educate. Initially on traveling stages, the actors were given permanent positions over time and were able to work in permanent ensembles. The basic features of the design of our current theater developed, including the backdrop, stage curtain and auditorium. The Freiberg Theater is also called the “little Semper Opera” due to its impressive interior. Theater has been performed in Freiberg for over 200 years. During this time, theater changed. It was supposed to entertain and influence people, politically and religiously. The artist Catrin Große created the figure.
