The customs fortress is surrounded by a city wall around 1100 meters long. There are towers of various designs at the corners: to the northwest the round Krötschenturm, to the northeast the rectangular Rhein-/Zollturm, to the southeast the Schlossturm, to the southwest the round Mühlenturm and, in the inner city on the castle wall, the Juddeturm. There were two public gates into the city: to the north through the Rheintor and to the west through the Feldtor. The former was partially demolished in the 19th century, the latter almost completely. A third outer gate (south gate), which is the best preserved, formed the entrance from the Zwinger to the outer bailey.Zons' old town is one of the best preserved late medieval town complexes. It attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and allows them to travel back in time to the late Middle Ages...
