      Today my wife and mother-in-law wanted a trip directly to the banks of the Rhine. A lonely spot is not so easy to find on Mother's Day. Fortunately, I knew a "quiet" stretch of beach in the Monheimer Rheinbogen from cycling & there was really nothing going on there.

      For the first time ever, I visited the center of Bergisch Gladbach today. The market square and the pedestrian zone in particular are very interesting and worthwhile. I also liked the "rose garden", a very beautiful, small, listed complex.
      The moated castle "Haus Blegge" was also on my route. "Haus Blegge" is located on private property, but access from Paffrather Str. Is permitted.
      Then it went back through the thin forest and Leverkusen.

      The aim of today's little round was to visit the fairy tale forest in Ittertal & the small zoo at Haus Poock in Osterholz.
      The fairytale forest was closed at the end of 2018 and has been in a "deep slumber" ever since. There is now a new owner who would like to continue the park in the old tradition. An association was also founded which has made it its task to help maintain the park, for example they take care of the restoration of the small buildings in the fairy tale forest.
      It is not yet known when exactly it will reopen.
      The visit to the small zoo at Haus Poock is free of charge. For 50 cents, you can get the right food for the animals at a machine and feed them yourself.

      Today's family tour took us to the thin forest and the surrounding area in wonderful weather. There were a lot of nice points on our route. We particularly liked the Dellbrücker Heide, the wildlife park in the thin forest and the Höhenfelder See.
      I can particularly recommend the park at Diepeschrather Mühle as a break. Here is also the "Himmelsleiter", a small path made of concrete slabs, on which you can cross the small lake.
      It is also worth mentioning that the driveway to the pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Opladen has currently been dismantled on one side due to construction work. At this point, however, you can use the elevator, the bike fits easily into it.

      Today we first went along the Wupper, from Nesselrath to Mühlendamm. From there along the Dhünn to Altenberg Cathedral. A beautiful route, with partly perfect bike paths, well-developed forest trails and a short passage that was a bit bumpy and had a few roots.
      Once I had to leave the route because of construction work, so I went a bit along the road towards Odenthal.
      The Altenberg Cathedral is a wonderful destination and I can absolutely recommend a visit, it is really worth it.
      Then it went back over the Balkan Terrace and Leichlingen.

      Today's round went from Schöller to Erkrath along the Düssel, mainly on forest paths.
      The landscape of this section is just beautiful.
      It should be noted that some of the forest paths are not necessarily suitable for bicycles. The section between Schöller and Hermgesberg in particular should be traveled with caution. Here the path is quite narrow, there are some thick roots and a few steps to overcome. But this section is particularly beautiful.
      Unfortunately, the place where the Neanderthal was found was closed, probably due to Corona.

      Today's family round took us over the Römerweg towards Düsseldorf.
      The Römerweg is a wonderful high-altitude path and always offers a fantastic view of the Cologne Bay.
      Through "Till & Co" I found out that the zoo park used to be the zoological garden of Düsseldorf and that a visit is really worthwhile, which I can absolutely confirm!
      On the way it went over and over again along the Düssel over many "green sections".
      All in all, it was a great lap, which I can also recommend for descendants.

      After a few years it was time to visit the Düsselquelle again.
      The comments in this highlight make it easy to see that this is probably not the real source, but that it was "decided" a long time ago.
      For me it was still a nice destination and I can recommend a stop at this point.
      On my route, how could it be otherwise, was the Kölnische Landstrasse, but so that it doesn't get boring, this time the other way around ...

      After a long time, a visit from "Father Rhine" was on the program today. Since my wife particularly likes Monheim and the surrounding area, it went in this direction as well.
      The Marienburg with its park and the Monberg, which I have not yet climbed, were new for me today.
      Both very nice points on our tour.
      At a very lonely place in the Monheimer Rheinbogen, we took a longer break, enjoyed the sunshine and the wonderful view of the Rhine.

      On my tour today, the focus was on visiting the heather garden in the Ohligser Heide. Since nobody has set it as a highlight so far, I assumed that it is quite unknown.
      In this small, approx. 50 x 50 meter large facility, the habitat of fauna and flora in the Ohligser Heide is explained in detail on many display boards. You can reach it through a small gate, which serves as an entrance and exit and has to be closed again and again.
      This place is also great for a picnic. several benches and tables are available for this.
      Otherwise, the tour ran through Leichlingen, along the Wupper, Haus Graven moated castle with glider airfield and the Hildener Heide.
